The tasks a Cigarette Making Machine Operator is expected to perform include:
Tending the automatic machine to make cigarettes
Placing the roll of cigarette paper on the spindle
Setting the monogram printing device to print brand name on paper at specified position
Regulating the flow of shredded tobacco to ensure that cigarette contains specified amount of tobacco
Filling the ink and glue reservoir
Threading the cigarette paper between guide rolls and adjust friction tension on holding spindles using wrench
Knowledge of different types of cigarettes
Proficient on working with spindles, automatic machines, monogram printing devices, etc.
Knowledge of starting machine and observing operation to ensure that shredded tobacco is automatically drawn and wrapped in cigarette paper
Well-versed in forming a continuous tube and that tube of wrapped tobacco is cut at correct intervals into cigarettes
Adept with making filter, cork tipped cigarettes, placing coil of tipping material on spindle and fills hopper with filters
Ability to replace the full cigarette catching trays with empty ones
Knowledge of reporting malfunction to superiors
Knowledge of cleaning paper scraps and waste materials from machine

Tobacco factories usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours every day. This may vary from one factory to factory

Growth Estimates and Latest Trends of Tobacco Industry in India
Exports of Indian tobacco and tobacco products have witnessed a rising trend and growth in the past few years. As of December 2014, the exports showed that India has so far exported 18,003 tonnes of tobacco in the period of 2014-15.
Currently, India is the second-largest exporter of FCV tobacco in the world and Indian tobacco is exported to around 100 countries. India exports unmanufactured tobacco primarily to Western Europe, South & South-east Asia, East Europe and Africa. All these factors put together is only going to increase the job opportunities in the Tobacco Industry across towns and cities in India.
