Minimum 2 years of work experience required

The tasks a Miller, Foodgrains is expected to perform include:

Processing rice, wheat, pulses, spices and other food grains by operating one or more machines

Supervising the operations of machines by other workers

Adjusting and operating machines for removing husk or bran from grains, polishing rice, grinding, etc.

Crushing grain and spices into smaller pieces or powder, grinding, shifting and screening grains, flour or spices, etc.

Observing and supervising milling process for desired results

Maintaining flow of milled product by regulating flow of ingredients in specified proportion

Removing obstructions by tapping clogged spouts with mallet and by adjusting gates

Examining product periodically by rubbing sample between fingers or comparing it with colour and texture of standard sample

Keeping records of materials received and products milled

Supervising other workers at various stages of processing

Skilled in de-stoning, husking and separating the grains

Knowledge of traditional and modern methods of processing food grains

Basic knowledge of appropriately storing food grains

Skilled in examining the product manually

Skilled in troubleshooting techniques to overcome obstructions while processing food grains

Working hours
Mills usually work for 6/7 days a week and 10/12 hours every day. This may vary from mill to mill

Food Industry in India

According to IBEF, The Indian food and grocery market is the world?s sixth largest, with retail contributing 70% of the sales. It is projected to grow at the rate of 104%, touching US$ 482 billion by 2020. According to the data provided by the Department of Industrial Policies and Promotion (DIPP), the food processing sector in India has received around US$ 6,215.46 million worth of foreign investments during the period April 2000-Janaury 2015. The allocation of 2,000 crore (US$ 319.98 million) as a separate National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) fund for food processing industries during the Union Budget 2014?15 is all set to give a big boost to this sector in India.

A lot of skilled manpower is required in mills in India and according to the given data, this requirement is bound to increase in future due to growing food industry in India. There are about 43,000 modernized rice mills/huller-cum-shellers. Around 820 large flour mills in the country convert about 10.5 million tonnes of wheat into wheat products. Also there are 10,000 pulse mills milling about 75% of pulse production of 14 million tonnes in the country. This data provides ample proof that the employment opportunities for Miller, Foodgrains will see a substantial growth in the future in India.
