Pulping Machine Attendant

The tasks a Pulp Houseman (Coffee) is expected to perform include:

Operating the pulping machine which cuts and removes the fleshy pulp from ripe coffee berries

Feeding or dumping the hopper of the machine with ripe coffee berries, manually

Opening the valves to let the water flow into the machine

Regulating the flow of berries into the machine by adjusting the hopper door

Observing the operation of cutting and removing of the flesh from berries

Allowing the pulped berries to flow into the tank which drains water and retains berries

Removing the pulp from the machine to the dump-yard

Refilling the tank with water up to the required level and raking the beans in water using a wooden ladle to clean the remaining fleshy skin from the beans

Draining the water and removing the cleaned coffee beans and spreading them in the open yard for drying

Keeping the pulp house clean and tidy

Attending to the repairs of the machine

Knowledge of production processes and quality control

Ability to troubleshoot the machine when required

Skilled in handling and manipulating the levers of the machine

Knowledge of relevant tools and equipment

Knowledge of extracting the pulp from the berries

Further, the demand for coffee dispensing machines is expected to rise in these countries, which would be a boon for this sector with immense demand for trained professionals.
