The tasks a Husker, Machine (Foodgrain) is expected to perform include:

Operating husking machine to separate grain from its outer covering or shell

Pouring grain into storage bin attached to the machine

Regulating feeding of grain into machine by manipulating lever

Examining hulled grain periodically for proper husking

Switching off machine after completion of process or when machine does not function properly

Removing minor defects and reporting major defects to mistry for rectification

Cleaning and oiling machine when not in use

Maintaining production reports

Directing workers in storage of graded grain

Skilled in operating husking machine in order to extract grain from its outer covering

Knowledge of various grains and the method to handle them

Skilled in keeping records and making reports

Skilled in examining the quality of the final product

Ability to assess faults and defects in the machine

Basic knowledge of storing grains adequately

Not applicable

Food Industry in India

According to IBEF, The Indian food and grocery market is the world?s sixth largest, with retail contributing 70% of the sales. It is projected to grow at the rate of 104%, touching US$ 482 billion by 2020. According to the data provided by the Department of Industrial Policies and Promotion (DIPP), the food processing sector in India has received around US$ 6,215.46 million worth of foreign investments during the period April 2000-Janaury 2015. The allocation of 2,000 crore (US$ 319.98 million) as a separate National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) fund for food processing industries during the Union Budget 2014?15 is all set to give a big boost to this sector in India.

A lot of skilled manpower is required in mills in India and according to the given data, this requirement is bound to increase in future due to the growing food industry in India. There are about 43,000 modernized rice mills/huller-cum-shellers. Around 820 large flour mills in the country convert about 10.5 million tonnes of wheat into wheat products. Also there are 10,000 pulse mills milling about 75% of pulse production of 14 million tonnes in the country. Hence, the job profile of Husker, Machine (Foodgrain) will see a substantial growth in the future in India.
