Dorr Clarifier Operator

The tasks a Dorr Clarifier Operator is expected to perform include:

Operating the clarifier which settles the mixture of juice, lime and super phosphate

Heating the mixture to determine the temperature for the clarifying juices

Boiling the mixture of juice and lime to the prescribed temperature in the sub-sider unit

Collecting samples of the juice in test tubes

Observing the tests against light to ascertain the clarity of the juice

Taking samples of the juice periodically to check the quality of clarification using BTB (Bromo ?Thymal Blue) paper

Manipulating the valves to let out the juice from the different compartments of the dorr and opening the bottom cocks

Checking the sample and ensuring that the mud level is not above the prescribed limit

Examining the consistency of the mud and regulating the draining from the various units

Draining out the mud from the sub-sider to the mud tank

Cleaning the mud deposited in the tank once in each shift

Applying heavy oil once every week over the surface of the juice so as to prevent the vapour from escaping

Ensuring the efficient working of the different compartments and components of the unit

Providing guidance to the evaporator

Skilled in taking readings of time, temperature, pressure and volume

Proficient in handling pressure and temperature gauges

Knowledge of food safety and handling procedures

Proficient in troubleshooting

Skilled at maintaining the equipment at the required temperature

Skilled in operating the clarifier machine

Knowledge of conducting tests to ascertain the clarity of juice used for sugar manufacturing

Knowledge of the specification used to check the mud levels, clarity, etc.

The Indian sugar industry has a total turnover of INR 500 billion per annum and contributes almost INR 22.5 billion to the central and state exchequer as tax and excise duty every year according to the sources of Ministry of Food and Government of India.

Given all these figures it is safe to say that the demand for a Dorr Clarifier Operator is there in the present and will surely increase in the coming years.
