The tasks an Exhaust Box Operator (Food Canning & Preserving) is expected to perform include:
Removing or expelling air from fruit tissues and containers
Placing and keeping fruits tissues immersed in hot water bath or steam chest for specified period
Placing filled cans with top open on conveyor belt
Regulating speed of conveyor to allow cans to pass through steam filled channel for a specified time
Admitting steam into exhaust box to raise temperature to heat can so as to expel air from fruit tissues
Starting, stopping and clearing machine when jams occur
Oiling and cleaning machine
Knowledge of safety and basic hygiene rules
Knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control
Knowledge of temperature specifications to be maintained
Ability to troubleshoot the machine
Skilled in regulating speed of conveyor belt
Skilled in monitoring gauges, dials or other indicators
