Telecommunication Lineman

Minimum Degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering


The tasks a Lineman, Telephone & Telegraph is expected to perform include:

Installing, repairing and maintaining telephone and telegraph lines, telephone instruments, key boards, etc.

Erecting poles manually for telephone and telegraph lines, ensuing proper spacing, alignment, stability, etc.

Climbing erected poles to fix insulators, lightning arrestors, etc.

Drawing and signing wires on poles as directed by sub-inspector telephone & telegraph

Installing telephone equipment and key boards at subscriber's premises

Checking equipment periodically and on breakdowns, locating faults and removing defects by repairs or replacement

Maintaining lines within allotted section free of faults

Repairing and laying underground cables

Knowledge of communication equipment, such as telegraphs, telephones, etc.

Ability to maintains equipment and analyze operational malfunctioning

Well-versed in examining mechanism and disassembling components to replace

Proficient in repairing cables and laying out plans for new equipment

Efficient in erecting poles and towers, stringing overhead lines, installing underground systems, etc.

Ability to handle various equipment like trenchers, digger derricks, cable plows, and borers, etc.
