Minimum Preferably ITI graduate

Certified training for Test and Repair Technician (programme aligned to ELE/Q4602 released by Electronics Sector Skills Council of India)

1 year apprenticeship for ITI passed

The tasks a Test and Repair Technician is expected to perform include:

Rectifying the faults in the faulty module in the IT hardware equipment

Diagnosing the problem

Deciding on the correct action to be taken

Reworking and repairing the faulty module

Ensuring effective functioning of the hardware as per requirement

Knowledge of basic electronics involved in the hardware

Knowledge of different types of IT hardware and functionalities

Well-versed with the functions of electrical and mechanical parts/modules

Well-versed with the voltage and power requirement for different hardware devices

Knowledge of test electronic components such as diodes, transistors with reference to circuit diagram

Knowledge of basic electronic repairing and reworking such as desoldering, soldering, removal and fixing components

Proficiency in operating the system and other hardware peripherals

Adept at estimating cost of repair

Proficiency in use of tools such as electric screwdrivers, multimetre, soldering station, oscilloscope, hot air blower, BGA workstation

Adept at checking and testing various electronic components and their functionality

Well-versed with the documentation process of spares movements and the action performed

Working hours are 10/12 hours every day for 5/6 days a week. This may vary form company to company

IT Hardware segment includes personal storage devices, printers, servers, Personal Computers (PCs),

supercomputers, data processing equipment and peripherals such as monitors, keyboards, disk drives, plotters, SMPS, modems, networking products and add-on cards.

Projected HR Requirement in the Electronics and IT Hardware Industry

According to the IMaCS Analysis, the Electronics and IT Hardware industry has the potential to grow at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of about 17% till 2022 and even thereafter considering the fact that the GDP is expected to grow at a rate of 7.5% to 8% over this period. The production of Electronics and IT Hardware is expected to increase from 844 billion in 2008 to 7,520 billion by 2022. The human resource requirement in the computer industry only has been projected to grow from 2,73,000 in 2012 to 8,10,000 by 2022 that is an increment of 5,37,000 resources. This indicates there will be huge requirement for persons trained in manufacturing and servicing functions in the Electronics and IT Hardware Industry. One of them would be Test and Repair Technician.
