The tasks a Platform Inspector, Railway is expected to perform include:

Controlling platform staff and ensuring cleanliness and general appearance of platform and attached rooms at Railway Station

Supervising work of Porters to ensure that passengers are not overcharged or harassed by them

Allotting duties to station service staff, checking cleanliness of platforms, waiting rooms, tea stalls, refreshment rooms etc. and ensuring that they are clean and proper hygienic

standard is maintained

Preventing entry of unlicensed Porters, Vendors etc., in platform

Inspecting directional notices, posters and advertisements displayed on platform and getting defective and unauthorised ones removed

Attending to complaints, requests and inquiries from passengers and arranging services as provided under rules

Ensuring safety of passengers in waiting rooms and taking necessary steps to prevent theft or any other illegal act within his jurisdiction

Well-versed in license requirements of vendors, porters, etc

Knowledge of all railway traffic and operative rules

Proficient in controlling platform staff and ensuring cleanliness at the railway platform

Knowledge of allotting duties to station service staff

Proficient in examining records and registers maintained

Knowledge of safety regulations to be followed

Proficient in resolving public complaints and investigating minor accidents, theft of goods, delays, etc.

Knowledge of intervening or settling platform disputes amongst passengers

Knowledge of checking overcrowding of passengers on platform and ensuring their smooth flow by locating passages
