The tasks a Section Controller, Railway is expected to perform include:

Controlling movement of rail traffic within his section

Arranging crossing of trains, efficient utilization of wagons and formation of goods trains at junction stations

Re -scheduling rolling stock, transhipment, etc. in case of accidents and breakdowns

Maintaining charts of running trains and ensures receipt and submission of prescribed reports and returns

Proficient in controlling movement of rail traffic within his territorial jurisdiction by constant telephonic contact with stations and on basis of information received regarding movement of trains and rolling stock at different stations

Adept at coordinating crossing of trains within his section with adjoining divisions and railways according to time table

Well-versed in obtaining full utilisation of wagons by adjusting supply and demand of wagons at different stations and controlling formation of trains at marshalling yard accordingly

Knowledge of recommending changes in time table in accordance with public request and requirement

Ability to focus for long hours
