Metal Edge Planer

Minimum ? 8th standard pass

Minimum experience of 2 to 7 years in relevant field

The tasks a Planer, Edge is expected to perform include:Planing edges of heavy metal plate, girders, etc. for structural work using appropriate cutting tools and edge shaping machine

Fastening plates, angles and other metal objects accurately in position on machine table using fixtures, bolts and nuts

Selecting appropriate cutting tool and clamping to machine spindle

Selecting and setting speed and feed of machine depending on nature of machine operation and metal used

Starting machine and lowering spindle of machine with cutting tool over metal to plane or cut the edges

Regulating flow of cutting lubricant over edge of tool, where necessary

Finishing edges of metal to required finish or smoothness by changing shaping or grinding tools in machine

Checking finished metal with measuring instruments and gauges for accuracy

Oiling, cleaning, sharpening and maintaining the tools and machines

Knowledge of smoothening edges with planing machines

Proficient in planning sequence of operations for edge planing operations

Knowledge of stock thickness, metal properties, machine and welding shrinkage, etc.

Skilled in the use of hammers, filers, grinders, rulers, brakes, rolls, shears, cutters, drill press, etc.

Efficient in the use of hand torch, furnace, jigs and welding torches
