Metal Shaper

Minimum 8th standard pass

Minimum experience of 2 to 7 years in relevant field

The tasks a Shaper is expected to perform include:Shaping metal objects to required specifications using shaping machine and cutting tools

Examining drawings and other specifications of part to be made

Fastening metal accurately in position in vice

Selecting appropriate cutting tool and fixing it in tool holder on the machine

Setting appropriate speed feed and stroke of machine depending on the nature of required cut, type of metal, etc.Adjusting machine table and tool post by manipulating levers or controls

Starting machine and turning hand-wheel to feed cutting tool into or across work or engaging automatic feed

Checking progress of cutting with measuring instruments and making necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy

Stopping machine when work is completed and removing work-piece from it

Sharpening and making own tools

Oiling and cleaning the machine

Knowledge of shaping operations, metal properties and shop mathematics

Ability to study blueprints, dimensioned sketch or layout on work-piece

Efficient in planning sequence of operations

Efficient in positioning, securing and verifying positions of work-piece

Skilled in working with dial indicator, thickness gauges, surface gauge, micrometers, calipers, etc.Proficient in computing angles and manipulating controls as and when required
