The tasks a Rifling Machine Operator is expected to perform include:

Setting and Operating rifling machines to make grooves inside rifle barrels

Studying drawings and other specifications of barrel rifling

Mounting appropriate broach cutter on cutting head

Adjusting machine to cut grooves of required specification

Regulating oil feed on the edges of the cutter before each use

Observing operation of cutting grooves (rifling) in bore surface

Inspecting rifling for defects

Removing dulled cutters and replacing them at regular time spans

Ensuring that rifling grooves are cut to specified depth

Shaping, harools hardening and tempering cutting tools whenever required

Knowledge of rifling bar and spiral cutters used in bore of barrel

Skilled in measuring rifling with gauges to ensure conformity to specification

Proficient in sharpening, hardening and tempering the cutting tools

Basis knowledge of various cuts and understanding of depth Ability to read the drawings and blueprints of the products to be made
