The tasks a Warehouse Supervisor is expected to perform include: Collecting information lists and relevant documents

Scheduling activities and allocating tasks

Maintaining general safety and discipline

Monitoring loading and unloading activity and inventory stored in the warehouse

Identifying and resolving warehouse activity-related problems

Checking whether quarantine has been done accurately

Performing end of day activities like updating status, reporting to management and preparing for next day?s activity

Detailed knowledge of all activities being undertaken in a warehouse

Knowledge of packing materials that can be used for components of different products

Knowledge of product labels to be pasted on each kit and technical specifications of goods Knowledge of the possible difficulties in each warehousing activity and quick fixes for minor issues

Knowledge of workplace hazards and safety operating practices

Trained in planning and scheduling activities

Time management skills

Injury while handling sharp and heavy objects, pallet trolleys, etc. may occur while working in a warehouse

Warehousing Industry in India

The warehousing industry in India is currently valued at INR 745bn (FY 2013) and has been growing at ~15% for the last 3 years. ValueNotes estimates that the industry will grow at a rate of 18% till 2017.

The unorganised sector will continue to dominate, accounting for around 90% of the industry by 2015. Of the organised sector, the industrial segment will constitute a higher share of warehousing demand, viz. engineering, pharmaceutical and electronicgoods.
