The tasks a Fitter, Loco expected to perform include:

Repairing locomotives and setting them to working condition according to instruction and guidance of Loco Foreman

Examining drawings and other specification, checking parts for defects and accuracy of fit, using gauges, micrometers and other measuring instruments

Dismantling units and components partly or completely to remove damaged or worn out parts and repairing them or obtaining replacements

Proficient in assembling parts, doing supplementary tooling as needed ensuring accuracy of fit

Adept at uncoupling all parts and mechanism from wheel assembly fitted to engine chassis or frame to get boilers mounted on frame free from wheels

Well-versed in directing Crane Operator to lift and placing engine frame along with boiler over wooden stand or blocks

Knowledge of sending wheel assembly and connected parts to machine shop for repairing or reconditioning of wheels, cross bars etc.

Adept at unscrewing nuts and bolts and removing all boiler mounting such as safety valve, gland steam fountains, whistle pipes, smoke box fittings etc.

Proficient in unscrewing nuts and bolts and removing all boiler mounting such as safety valve, gland stem fountains, whistle pipes, smokes box fittings etc.

Well-versed in lifting boiler from frame by crane and sending it to boiler section for repairing and servicing

Adept at examining engine frame for damage, cracks and other defects and marking area for welding, rivetting etc. as required

Proficient in checking piston, valves, cylinder etc. and getting cylinder bored to specific accuracy

Adept at repairing valve assembly, fits new rings and assembling all parts and units according to specifications under guidance of Loco Supervisor/Foreman

Well-versed in testing reassembled parts, units for components and making necessary adjustments

Knowledge of checking, adjusting and lubricating parts and joints periodically or directing helpers to do so and performing other tasks under guidance of Loco Foreman to keep loco engine and equipment in good working order

Knowledge of keeping record of parts examined and equipment performance

Knowledge of specializing in steam or diesel engine

Knowledge of specializing in repairing, servicing and overhauling of particular units or components

Good physical health

Flexible for spending long days away from home

Working hours are 10/12 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week
