Second-Hand Auto Sales Surge, Financing Too Catches
The recession seems a thing of the past for the second-hand car market. Auto majors such as Maruti, General Motors and other second hand car dealers have witnessed a significant surge in their pre-owned car business in the first half of the current fiscal.
Sales have picked up from September and auto majors are hopeful the trend will continue.
Incidentally, the size of the used-car market in India is estimated at about 10 lakh units per annum, with the market being largely fragmented and unorganized.
The share of the organized market in this segment is only about 10% while unorganized dealers account for another 30% share. The balance 60% of the sales in the used car market is through personal dealings between the buyers and the sellers.
