Minimum ITI Diploma

Minimum experience of 4 to 9 years in relevant field

The tasks a Tool Maker is expected to perform include:

Making cutting and press tools, gauges, simple jigs, fixtures, etc. mainly for use in machines

Studying drawings, samples and other specifications of tool or gauge to be made

Selecting required type of metal or alloy and marking it for various operations, using verneir height gauges, sine plate, etc.

Cutting, filing, grinding, scraping or shaping metal to specified dimensions

Checking it while working with measuring instruments such as micro-meter, Vernier, gauges, face plate, etc.

Annealing, shaping, hardening and tempering cutting tools to ensure correct cutting angles, clearances, etc. according to specifications

Assembling finished objects and checking accuracy with precision measuring instruments and shadow graph to ensure desired performance

Calibrating and adjusting tools and gauges, where required

Guiding brazing of tips to stalks and finishing them to make tip tools

Designing, repairing and reconditioning tools for further use

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, specifications or CAD and CAM files for making tools and dies

Efficient in computing and verifying dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of work-pieces

Skilled in setting up, operating and disassembling conventional, manual and computer-numeric controlled (CNC) machine tools

Proficient in filing, grinding and adjusting parts so that they fit together properly

Knowledge of how to test completed tools and dies to ensure that they meet specifications

Skilled in smoothening and polishing the surfaces of tools and dies

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Training certificate in metal forging technology

Good communication skills

Working hours

Companies usually work for 5/6 days a week and 8/9 hours everyday. This may vary fromcompany to company

The rising demand for metal and metal products across sectors has presented tremendous employment opportunities for Tool Makers in India.
