Certified training for Manager Process Engineering (programme aligned to ASC/Q6407 released by Automotive Skills Development Council)

For ASDC Level 6 certificate holder: 1-3 years

Minimum 7-10 years in a manufacturing support department for candidates with other qualifications

The tasks a Manager Process Engineering is expected to perform include:

Reviewing the analysis of the existing tools and equipment

Reviewing proposals prepared by the respective Process Engineers

Finalizing the process based on the comparison matrix for the proposals

Preparing the list of FTGs for the new equipment inthe process

Floating enquiries for the budgetary quotes

Compiling the capital budget and getting the necessary approvals

Auditing the pre-PPAP process as per the checklist to assess qualitative completion of all tasks

Completing all requirements of the PPAP document

Submitting the PPAP document for approval

Releasing the drawings and FTGs to all the departments concerned with the process

Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes that are being followed in the company

Familiarity with the sequence of operations for each process

Knowledge of product conformance requirements

Basic knowledge of product engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances

Knowledge of CAD software and 3D modelling techniques

Familiarity with the complete layout of the process in consideration

Familiarity with the material and information flow of the process

Knowledge of decision matrix techniques

Basic knowledge of tools and equipment functioning for the new process

Knowledge of facilities? requirement and operational knowledge

Basic knowledge of APQP, PPAP

Skilled in preparation of timeline in MS Project/Excel

Knowledge of documents required for PPAP

Basic knowledge of 5S procedures

Knowledge of the manufacturing processes in the organization

Knowledge of TS 16949, APQP, FMEA, PPAP

Ability to work independently

Result-oriented

Good co-ordinating skills

Trends in the Automotive Manufacturing Industry in India

The Automotive Mission Plan for the period of 2006-2016 aims to make India emerge as a global automotive hub. The idea is to make India the destination of choice for the design and manufacture of automobiles and auto components, with outputs soaring to reach USD 145 billion which is basically accounting for more than 10% of the GDP. This would also provide further employment to over 25 million people by 2016 making automobiles the sunrise sector of the economy.

According to the Confederation of Indian Industry, the automobile sector currently employs over 80 lakh people. An extension in production in the automobile industry is forecasted; it is likely to rise to Rs. 600000 crore by 2016.

As the manufacturing units of automotive increases, the demand for Manager Process Engineering will also increase.
