Certified training for Designer-Mechanical (programme aligned to CSC/ Q 0405 released by Capital Goods Skill Council)

Minimum 1 year apprenticeship

The tasks a Designer - Mechanical is expected to perform include:

Identifying customer?s requirements

Creatinga design brief and planning design activities

Creatingand evaluating design options

Creatingdetailed design and models using 2D and 3D software for design

Obtainingdesign validations from production and maintenance considerations

Allocateingresponsibilities and resources to each activity

Ensureingthat the designing process is completed within agreed deadlines

Complying with all relevant regulations

Knowledge of purpose of a design brief and its importance

Knowledge ofusingvarious sources for information for the design brief

Knowledge of how to obtain and interpret legislative and regulatory documentation

Proficientin identifyingto Identify the types of design features that should be considered unique or specific

Knowledgeof the factors that affect the feasibility of achieving a customer's requirements

Wellversedwiththeimportance of identifying design constraints

Training in :

Computer Aided Design (CAD) system 2D and 3D

Basic communication, numerical and computational abilities

Capital Goods Market Trends

It has been estimated that India's capital goods market can grow from $71.7 billion in 2011-12 to $153.3 billion by 2016-17, a compounded annual growth rate of 16%. Also, capital goods, infrastructure and power companies are likely to benefit from policies that the new government (after the 2014 general elections) pursues to increase economic growth. Also, the sector will gain from the special economic zones the government has sanctioned for the industry.

Capital Goods & Engineering Sector for the 12th Five Year Plan(2012-2017)

The industry growth during 11th Plan stood at 14%. The turnover during 2010-11 was 2,67,944 crore. There is a need for rapid growth of the sector, for which initiation of some national programmes has been proposed. These in turn will create additional demand. Steps to substitute imports by domestic production have also been proposed. This is expected to take the sector to 6,81,000 crores in 2016-17 at a CAGR of 16.8%. The current employment of 1.4 million is expected to reach 2.8 million by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-2017). All these factors indicate good job growth for professionals such as Designer ? Mechanical in this sector.
