The tasks that a Tubesmith, Boiler is expected to perform include:
Forming, repairing and maintaining boiler tubes
Cutting tubes to required length, grinding surfaces, reaming holes
Expanding or reducing ends and swaging them as required
Repairing or replacing defective or worn out tubes and tests for leakage by hydraulic pressure
Competent in belling and beading with power hammers
Efficient in bolting arc-weld pressure vessel structures and parts together
Well-versed in using wrenches and welding equipment
Equipped to examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats Competent in locating defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections Proficient in inspecting assembled vessels and individual components
Equipped to install manholes, hand holes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges
Ability to install refractory bricks and other heat-resistant materials in fireboxes of pressure vessels
Good hand-eye co-ordination
Ability to follow technical plans
Ability to work in a well organised and accurate way
Awareness of safety issues
Ability to work as part of a team Physically fit
Eye for detail
