The tasks that a Boiler Maker is expected to perform include:

Making layout of boiler from drawings

Fitting and assembling different parts, adjusting valves, preparing boiler for steam and hydraulic tests and undertaking repairs of boilers

Studying drawings, setting barrel of boiler in position, marking out locations and fitting different units

Repairing and replacing tubes, stays, grates etc.

Expanding tubes and adjusting valves and other functional parts of boiler

Doing riveting, caulking, reaming, beading etc.

Checking components, fittings, mountings etc.

Preparing boiler for inspection at different stages and also for hydraulic and steam tests

Assembling tanks, vats and other heavy steel vessels with prefabricated parts

Altering boiler parts and repairing pumps, pipe lines etc.

Competent in belling and beading with power hammers

Efficient in bolting arc-weld pressure vessel structures and parts together

Well-versed in using wrenches and welding equipment

Equipped to examine boilers, pressure vessels, tanks, and vats

Competent in locating defects such as leaks, weak spots, and defective sections

Proficient in inspecting assembled vessels and individual components

Equipped to install manholes, hand holes, taps, tubes, valves, gauges

Ability to straighten or reshape bent plates or structure, using hammer, jacks, and torch
