Growth of Construction Industry in India

The only factors that can affect the growth of this industry are: technological advancement promoting greener production and lesser CO2 emissions; use of alternative fuels and waste has the potential to reduce production costs, and many more.

Growth in the Construction and Infrastructure sectors will directly impact sectorial development, especially through housing. Government investment in infrastructure for FY14-15 USD 1 trillion as per Twelfth FYP:

Infrastructure projects such as dedicated freight corridors, up-gradation of existing and development of new ports and airports, development of new industrial cities on the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor, etc. are expected to enhance the demand for capacity and production of construction raw materials

Real estate is expected to become a USD 180 billion sector by 2020

Specifically, demand is expected to be fuelled by rural, tier-I and tier-II cities

Strong growth in the construction sector is due to:

Large Demand in urban centres; Population growth and rapid urbanisation; Growing demand for housing.

There are policies that the Government is undertaking to ensure construction of energy efficient buildings and structures in India and concomitant reduction in electrical demand. According to the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council, New Delhi, so far, more than 800 construction professionals and 2000 masons, bar benders, plumbers, artisans have been imparted hands-on training.
