Electronic Components segment in India

Over the years, the Indian semiconductor design industry has developed significant capabilities and currently works on state-of-the-art products. Growing technical competence combined with stringent IP protection environment and trend towards localisation of contents will help this segment continue to grow.

There are more than 120 companies in India focused on semiconductor design for global products. This industry has witnessed a robust growth of 17.3 per cent since 2009 and today boasts of a 5.1 percent share of the global pie. Considering the continued growth momentum, the Indian semiconductor design market is expected to touch US$ 14.5 billion in 2015.

According to the "Human Resource and Skill Requirements in the Electronics & IT Hardware Sector (2022)" report, the Electronic Components sector is expected to grow by 19% till 2022 which is going to be higher than the GDP in India. The Electronics Sector Skills Council of India has listed Active Components as one of the top 14 sub-sectors with a high potential for employment. This will have a positive impact for the job roles falling under this sector.

According to the IMaCS Analysis, the human resource requirement in the Electronic Components segment has been projected to grow from 1,79,000 in 2012 to 8,34,000 in 2022 that is an increment of 6,55,000 resources.
