Current and Future Trends of Mobile Phone Market in India
India is now the quickest-expanding smartphone market globally and the third-largest market after China and the United States, according to Britain-based consultancy Canalys. According to a report by the research firm International Data Corporation, the Indian smartphone market grew 82% from 2014 and 27% over the preceding quarter.
The falling cost of handsets, coupled with improved usability and increasing network coverage, are factors that are making mobile technology a global phenomenon that will soon be available to the vast majority of the world?s population, regardless of age or location.
In India, the total numbers of mobile phone subscribers have reached 930.20 million as of September 2014. The mobile tele-density had increased to 74.55% in September 2014. In the wireless segment, 5.88 million subscribers were added in September 2014.
A report by Swedish mobile network equipment maker Ericsson By 2020, 90% of the world population over 6 years old will have a mobile phone, with number of smartphones reaching 6.1 billion. With positive consumer sentiments and low levels of inflation, consumers will have more money to spend. Majority of the smartphone users change their phones within 12 to 24 months. With so many mobile phone companies in the market, there is a fierce competition to promote their phone in this competitive market. Many mobile manufacturing companies are now promoting their phones by assigning a dedicated resource in local mobile shops across India. This will therefore create a lot of job opportunities for In-Store Promoter.
