Photographing news events, persons or objects for use in news-papers, magazines and receiving instructions from news editor or chief reporter
regarding nature of pictures to be taken
Traveling to various locations and waiting for the most suitable moment to take photographs
Attending state functions and parties and taking photographs of important people arousing special interest of news value for publication
Accompanying important visitors and dignitaries and taking photographs of significant events associated with important people
Removing exposed film for negatives with sound negative and filling up void portions with necessary music track
In-depth knowledge of various types of cameras, lens, terminology used in photography, camera angles, etc.Knowledge of measuring day light using exposing meter, focusing lens and adjusting lens opening and exposure time
Working knowledge of pressing lever to open lens shutter and exposing film or plate by pressing lever, allowing time, if necessary and removing negative from camera Working knowledge of photo printing, enlarging, fixing solutions, etc.Knowledge of current affairs and daily news

Since lot of press photographers work on their own there is no fixed work time
The time and days depends on the number of events, occasions, etc.News Photographers working in organisations may have fixed working hours which again may depend on the day?s events
There is no concept of shift work as press photography is based on the requirement
A news photographer is required to work on holidays and weekends
