Certified training for Helper - Bottom Making (Footwear) (programme aligned to LSS/Q3301 released by Leather Sector Skill Council)

No prior experience is required

The tasks a Helper - Bottom Making (Footwear) is expected to perform include:

Knowledge of material lasting, roughing, buffing, etc.

Providing assistance to footwear machine operators

Co-ordinating with other team members and carrying out activities as per production schedule

Understanding manufacturer?s and machine operators instructions

Knowledge of mulling operations

Knowledge of how to assist in lasting operation

Knowledge of preparation and mixing of adhesives

Proficient in adding insole to the shoes

Knowledge of how to clean and maintain machinery and report any repairs

Knowledge of material optimization techniques

Familiar with different types of material, fabric, yarn types, etc.

Will be updated

Good hand-eye co-ordination

Dexterity of hands

Basic numerical skills

Ability to focus for long hours

Basic communication skills

It is a benchwork job

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available

Work from home option is not available

Working hours

Working is 9/10 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week

Health risks include exposure to adhesives, various chemicals, etc.

Occupational hazards include injuries, fatigue, body ache, etc.

For freshers - INR 2,000 to INR 2,500 per month

For candidates with 1 year of experience or more - INR 3,000 to INR 4,000 per month

Overview of Leather Industry in India

In 2013-14, India's leather exports recorded a growth rate of 17.81 per cent, reaching US$ 5908.82 million as against the performance of US$ 5015.41 million in the corresponding period of last year.

Employment Forecast

The Government of India had identified the Leather Sector as a focus sector in its Foreign Trade Policy 2004-09 in view of its immense potential for export growth prospects and employment generation. Accordingly, the Government is also implementing various Special Focus Initiatives under the Foreign Trade Policy for the growth of Leather Sector. With the implementation of various industrial developmental programmes as well as export promotional activities, the Indian leather industry aims to augment the production, thereby enhance export, and resultantly create additional employment opportunities for overall one million people.

Footwear Sector

India is the second largest footwear producer after China with an annual production of 2,065 million pairs. It has a huge domestic retail market where 1950 million pairs (95%) are sold. Footwear export accounts for 45.05% share in India?s total leather & leather products export. All these factors indicate good job prospects for Helper Bottom Making (Footwear)
