Wood Carving Machine Operator

The tasks a Wood Carver, Machine is expected to perform include:

Setting and operating automatic spindle carving machine to carve ornamental and artistic designs on wood

Studying full-size designs and specifications

Determining nature of carving to be done and marking reference points on wood block

Selecting appropriate cutter and fitting it to machine spindle

Starting machine after fixing and adjusting wood on machine bed

Lowering spindle, making different cuts and manipulating wood piece against cutter to produce desired design

Proficient in using measuring instruments

Knowledge of selecting appropriate cutter and fitting it to machine spindle

Proficient in studying full-size designs and specifications, determining nature of carving to be done

Well-versed in regulating depth of cut by pedals

Proficient with checking complete work process and removing final product from machine

Well-versed in fixing and adjusting wood on machine bed

Knowledge of different types of wood such as Teak, Sheesham, Mango, Rosewood, Plywood and Particular Wood

Knowledge of carving design on separate piece of wood and glue or nail it on main article

Ability to make jigs for repetitive work

Knowledge of cleaning and oiling machine

Dexterity of hands

Motor skills

Hand-eye coordination

Eye for detail

Ability to focus for long hours

It needs one to be on their toes

Need not handle a team

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Part-time work and contractual jobs are available in some cities

Work from home option is not available

Working hours
Wood & carpentry units usually work for 6 days a week and 8/10 hours every day. This may vary from unit to unit

Occupational hazards may include lung diseases, breathing problems, asthma, musculoskeletal problems and overexertion injuries, respiratory disorders, injuries, eyesight problems, skin problems, backache, etc.

Health risks include exposure to small wooden chips, wooden dust, possible injuries due to sharp objects, machines, forceful use of wrist and finger flexors, etc.

For freshers - INR 5,000 to INR 6,500 per month

For candidates with 2-4 years of experience or more - INR 8,000 to INR 10,500 per month
