The tasks a Coach Builder, Railway is expected to perform include:

Constructing and repairing wooden bodies of railway coaches, using hand and power tools

Studying sketches or diagram for design of body to be constructed

Estimating and collecting timber pieces of required quantity and sizes

Replacing broken, damaged or worn out wooden parts for panels of railway coach with new ones and fixing fasteners, fittings, latches, glass on doors and windows etc. as

required

Knowledge of reading sketches, diagram

Proficient in cutting and shaping wood to required shape and sizes

Knowledge of using chisel, planer, saw and other hand tools

Well-versed in different type and quality of timber

Proficient in cutting wood with power driven machines according to drawing and other specifications

Well-versed in fitting and assembling various parts on chassis or frame of coach

Knowledge of laying or fixing floor, sides, roof, wooden panels, board, etc. and securing them tightly to frame with screws, pop rivets, bolts and nuts

Knowledge of applying wax, french polish or shellac to wooden surface as protective coat of paint

Knowledge of engraving or carving decorative or ornamental designs on wooden panels
