Railway Yard Master

The tasks a Yard Master, Railway expected to perform include:

Supervising breakup of incoming goods trains in railway yard

Marshalling of new trains from relocated wagons, and expeditious movement out of yard of newly formed trains

Making arrangements for reception and despatch of goods train into and from goods yard, after ensuring that points are correctly set and locked and line is clear

Proficient in checking incoming wagons so that they are properly labelled, seals are intact, and identification numbers are correctly recorded by clerk

Adept at directing placement and removal of damaged stock and wagons from sick line

Well-versed in sorting out wagons according to destination and ensuring that shunter forms goods trains as per marshalling order

Adept at ensuring that wagons containing fresh fruits and livestock are moved quickly

Proficient in keeping record of arrival and departure times of goods trains, detention of wagons, time taken for shunting and movement of rolling stock

Adept at supervising weighing of wagon loads on weigh bridge

Knowledge of informing Section Controller position of wagons in yard and readiness of goods train

Ability to substituting for any of his subordinates when necessary

Knowledge of performing duties of Station Master when required

Good physical health

Good mental health

Flexible for spending long days away from home

Team worker

Working hours

Working hours are 10/12 hours everyday for 5/6 days a week
