Riding Instructor

The tasks a Riding Instructor is expected to perform include:

Instructing and teaching the pupil all the techniques of horsemanship and equitation

Showing them how to mount a horse, how to post and how to control horses

Explaining actions related to walking, galloping, trotting, cantering and jumping

Taking the pupils to track so as to help them understand better

Providing horses as per the requirements of the pupils

Explaining the various riding equipment and their uses

Demonstrating the positions and postures of body and limbs for mounting horses

Explaining the positioning of saddle, controlling horse?s actions in walking, trotting and galloping, etc.

Familiarizing the pupils with the fundamentals of horsemanship by undertaking regular practice until proficiency is acquired

Giving the required instructions in stable management such as grooming and feeding of horses, maintenance of cleanliness of stable and keeping riding kit in good condition

Providing coaching in tent pegging and playing polo

Giving instructions in horse-keeping on scientific lines

Knowledge of handling horses and their behavioural traits

Proficiency in helping individual riders or teams to prepare for competitions like show jumping, events or dressage

Skilled in making sure that all health and safety rules are followed

Skilled in helping horses and riders to warm up and cool down during/after training

Proficiency in developing training programmes suited to individual riders

Skilled at giving practical demonstrations

Ability to observe riders in order to spot and help correct problems

Skilled in providing feedback and keeping records of rider development

Proficiency in assessing riders who are working towards qualifications

Ability to work through behavioural issues for both horse and rider

Skilled in helping pupils prepare for competition/show planning, enrolment and organizing the same

Institutes usually work for 6/7 days a week and 8/10 hours everyday. This may vary from institute to institute
