Sports Referee

The tasks an Umpire is expected to perform include:

Conducting games and sports in accordance with rules and pronouncing instantaneous decisions

Inspecting playground or area before commencement of game to ensure that lines and other markings in field are made properly and according to rules of the game

Examining sports material such as balls, rackets, bats, hockey sticks, etc. to be used in game for proper specifications

Calling contestants or captains of contesting teams in field for toss or for supervising the event of toss

Observing movement and position of ball and players for infringement of game rules

Awarding scoring points or imposing penalties by giving hand signals, calling loud or blowing whistle

Giving warning and cautioning erring players for deliberate breach of game rules

Pronouncing instantaneous judgement on appeal by either party or contestant during play

Stopping play at scheduled hour for close of game or earlier in emergency

Suspending any player from match or game for gross misconduct or persistent foul play

In-depth knowledge of all the rules and regulations of the respective sport

Skilled in fairly conducting the game

Skilled in examining the playing material for any tampering or discrepancies

Knowledge of all the hand signals to be performed during a game and awarding penalties and points

Skilled in assessing the playground and playing conditions

Ability to take command of the game according to the situation

Knowledge of code of conduct standards for the game
