The tasks of a Ferry Officer is expected to perform include:
Directing arrival of boats, steams etc. at ferry crossings
Controlling and co-ordinating work of staff employed at ferry station
Displaying time schedules, instructions, changes in timings of ferry service etc. at ferry station
Preparing duty roster of boat crew
Arranging substitutes for absentees
Ensuring that service boats are provided with lifesaving equipment?s
Attending to all passenger enquires
Checking periodically certificate issued on safety survey of seaworthiness of vessel
Attending to embarkation and disembarkation of passengers
Receiving and issuing signal messages to guide boat through water-way
Despatching relief boats and other assistance on receipt of S.O.S. from boat on course
Collecting and remitting to treasury levies from private boats for services rendered
Maintaining prescribed statement of accounts and returns and forwards them to higher authority
Knowledge of ferry crossings
Knowledge of sea routes
Well-versed with safety equipment?s on ferry
Proficient in preparing and displaying time schedules, instructions, etc.
