The tasks of a Captain, Ship is expected to perform include:
Functioning as head of ship ensuring safe navigation
Exercising complete control over officers and crew on board
Carrying on ship?s business at ports of call
Directing navigation of vessel, assisted by other deck officers
Laying course of voyage for officers on watch follow
Manoeuvring vessel under adverse weather conditions and emergencies
Altering course at discretion
Maintaining day to-day log of events during voyage
Carrying on ship?s business with customs port and services
Maintaining discipline on vessel
Submitting periodical reports to owner suggesting measures for increasing efficiency of service
Ability to ensure that the instructions are implemented correctly through close cooperation with department heads
Ability to monitor the practical application of the company's policy, procedures and instructions
Knowledge of issuing all work permits for the deck department
Knowledge of issuing shipboard crew notices as needed
Familiar with deck officers with the bridge equipment
Ability to investigate all marine casualties outside engine spaces
Ability to investigate all Incidents outside engine spaces
Ability to monitor the practical application of the company's policy, procedures and instructions
Familiar with correct management of lifting appliances
Ability to evaluate and acknowledge evaluations of deck department personnel
Knowledge of coordination of hazardous material emergency spill response
Ability to plan, execute and operate tendering services
Well-versed in ensuring all new crew members are instructed regarding their emergency duties according to the emergency plan
Knowledge of customs and port services such as, entering and clearing ship, submitting cargo manifesto to custom authorities, etc.
Ability to maintain discipline on vessel
Knowledge of submitting periodical reports to owner suggesting measures for increasing efficiency of service
