The tasks a ventriloquist is expected to perform include:Entertaining the audience by producing through own vocal chords, speeches, voices and sounds to imitate other human beings, animals, birds etc.

Ability to appear on stage and announce voices or sounds of objects to be imitated

Ability to speak or produce sound in such a manner that voice appears to come from source other than own vocal chords

Ability to entertain audience by speaking in manner that voice appears to come from dummy or hand puppet displayed during the performance

Overview of the World of Puppets

The art of ventriloquism is 5,000 years old. Ventriloquism which is an art of throwing your voice and creating an illusion that it is coming from the puppet?s mouth has a history. It was used by black magicians to deceive people. However, its scope changed over the years and today, it is being used as a social medium to educate as well as entertain.

The current employment across Media & Entertainment sector is estimated to be over 1 million persons (in terms of direct employment only). The Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) on Entertainment has grown at a Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12.5% between 2000 and 2008. It is expected that the PFCE on Entertainment would grow at a CAGR of 13% to 14% between 2008 and 202218. Accordingly, it is expected that the industry would continue to record growth rates between 13% and 14% till 2013. Furthermore, on a long term basis, we expect that the Media and Entertainment industry to grow at a CAGR of about 12% to 13% between 2008 and 2022.Keeping in mind the current employment, and the expected growth in different segments in the industry, we project that the total employment in the Media and Entertainment industry would increase from about 1 to 1.1 million persons in 2008 to about 4 to 4.1 million persons in 2022, an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million persons. This means an increase in job opportunities for a Ventriloquist.
