The tasks a Psychologist, Counselling is expected to perform include:
Providing individual and group counselling services to universities, colleges, schools, clinics and rehabilitation centres
Assisting individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, educational and vocational development and adjustment
Collecting data about individuals through interviews, case history and observational techniques
Selecting and interpreting psychological tests designed to assess an individuals intelligence, aptitude, abilities and interests
Applying knowledge of statistical analysis
Evaluating the data to identify the causes of problems of individuals
Determining the advisability of counselling or referral to other specialists or institutions
Conducting the counselling or therapeutic interviews
Assisting the individual in gaining insight into his personal problems
Defining the goals and plan of action
Reflecting the interests, abilities and needs of individuals
Providing occupational, educational and other information to enable an individual to formulate realistic educational and vocational plans
Performing follow-up results of the counselling to determine the reliability and validity of the treatment used
Engaging in research to develop and improve diagnostic and counselling techniques
Conducting, administering and scoring psychological tests
Knowledge of all the principles of psychology
Skilled in providing counselling to individuals and groups
Ability to help individuals in achieving personal, social, educational and vocational development
Skilled in conducting interviews, studying case histories and making use of observational techniques
Skilled at selecting the best psychological method that can help assess an individuals intelligence, aptitude, abilities and interests
