The tasks a Sheriff is expected to perform include:

Functioning as honorary officer of State in big cities or towns for maintaining peace

Administering justice under direction of courts

Executing writs and other processes of court

Reading proclamation based on Government orders in important public places

Meeting high officials of State to convey public opinion to them and public area

Entertaining officially and convening public meetings on request from citizens

Ensuring proper serving executing and returning all processes issued by High Court

Ensuring maintenance of peace in courtrooms of High Court

Receiving money during execution proceedings and making payment pursuant to orders of Court

Ability to maintain peace and making sure justice is served in the Sheriff's area of jurisdiction

Knowledge of law and order of the area

Skilled in convening public meetings and organising them

Ability to make sure that all the processes issued by high court are served effectively

Skilled in handling financial transactions in accordance with court orders
