Preferably minimum experience of 4 years in relevant field
The tasks a Character Designer is expected to perform include:
Gathering visual references such as images, paintings, prints, murals, etc. to aid during animation process
Preparing the character pack, including character design, construction detail, character line-up, etc.
Charting out the character dos and don?ts, size relationship chart, attitude poses, hand gestures, facial expressions, etc.
Studying the movement of characters and suggesting characteristics by shooting videos or acting
Drawing out possibilities for each character on paper along with their clothing, accessories, etc.
Skilled in life drawing including human anatomy, emotions, actions, expressions, mannerisms, etc.
Knowledge of human behaviour, facial expressions, walking style, animal anatomy, etc.
Skilled in the basics of theatre-acting and staging
Knowledge of image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop, Gimp, etc.
Efficient in designing and developing characters consistent with the creative look of production and script
Proficient in creating perspective drawings from all angles
Efficient in mimicking any given character style according to the style suggested by the director
Knowledge of the applicable copyright norms and intellectual property rights
Knowledge of the latest designing and drawing techniques
Will be updated
Excellent drawing skills

Animation Boom in Entertainment
According to a recent report by Nasscom, the Indian animation industry, with a market size valued at US$ 300 million, has come a long way in the last couple of years. The report further add on that India should easily cross US$ 869 by 2010, pushing the compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) to over 25% between 2006 and 2010. Currently the market is mainly driven by outsourced work, with about 60-70% of the revenues come from the West. However, that would not be the case for long say experts; the domestic market might soon take a bigger share in the growth.
The expanding animation industry ensures positive prospects for many candidates wanting to enter into this arena. The rising demand for Character Designers, 2D and 3D Designers is evident with the tremendous growth potential of animation and gaming industry and there are plenty of employment opportunities for many creative minds.
