The tasks a Public Relations Officer is expected to perform include:

Liaising between the organization and general public for promoting goodwill

Distributing publicity material and issuing press releases to popularize organization?s activities

Studying newspapers, journals, etc., to identify trends of public opinion on policies and activities of the organization

Assisting the employer to understand public opinion and criticism of policies

Meeting press and public representatives to explain special features of the organization

Distributes publicity material, arranges film shows, etc. to cultivate appreciation of organization's activities

Arranging visits of important persons and organizing special parties, to establish a platform for explaining the activities of the organization

Participates in exhibitions and displays posters, charts, models, etc. to public

Selecting suitable publicity material

Writing special features, articles, reports or pamphlets

Participating and getting photographs/video taken of important functions

Editing journals or periodicals, for publicising activities of the organization

Maintaining information centre and organizing community relations activities

Ability to stay updated with current events

Knowledge of using social networking and other forms of media for publicity

Basic knowledge of IT modules

Skilled in developing publicity strategies and campaigns

Knowledge of writing publicity material

Basic knowledge of design and production

Knowledge of planning and organizing promotional events

Skilled in conducting market research

Proficient in English language

Will be updated

For freshers - INR 5,000 to INR 7,000 per month

For candidates with 1 - 5 years of experience INR 15,000 to INR 25,000 per month

For candidates with over 5 - 7 years of experience INR 25,000 to INR 50,000 per month

Overview of Media and Entertainment Industry in India

The Media and Entertainment industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. The television segment in India accounts for over 40% of the revenues. It also contributes to above 35% of the revenues to the Indian advertising industry. The film industry, on the other hand, has seen a tremendous growth and has become a brand name in the recent years. This has helped it to enter the international market.

The current employment across Media & Entertainment sector is estimated to be over 1 million persons (in terms of direct employment only). The Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) on Entertainment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13% to 14% between 2008 and 2022.

Keeping in mind the current employment, and the expected growth in different segments in the industry, we project that the total employment in the Media and Entertainment industry would increase from about 1 to 1.1 million persons in 2008 to about 4 to 4.1 million persons in 2022, which translates to an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million persons. All these factors mean that there will be a huge demand of Public Relations Officer across towns and cities in India.
