Previous relevant work experience

The tasks a Caption Writer is expected to perform include:

Writing caption phrases of dialogue for hearing-impaired and different Indian language speaking viewers

Writing captions to describe music and background noises

Watching production and reviewing caption simultaneously to determine which phrases require editing

Entering command to synchronize captions with dialogue and placing them on the screen

Translating different Indian languages dialogues into English language captions

Translating English dialogue into different Indian language captions

Operating computerized captioning system for movies or television productions

Overseeing encoding of captions to master tape of television production

Discussing captions with directors or producers of movie and television productions

Editing translations for correctness of grammar, punctuation, and clarity of expression

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar

Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques

Proficient in translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used

Well-versed with monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, etc. to detect or assess problems

Knowledge of the structure and content of the foreign (non-English) language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar
