Minimum experience of 2 to 3 years in the relevant field

The tasks an Animal Nutritionist is expected to perform include:

Studying composition and nutritive values of animal feeds

Framing balanced diets and feeding schedules for different kinds of animals

Studying the habits of animals in relation to type and quantity of feed they consume

Determining the feed on the basis of effect on size, weight and development, strength and yield of milk, meat, wool, eggs, etc. of the animals

Experimenting with the nourishment of animals using different types of feeds and also recording the improvement and growth in each case

Prescribing the correct feed such as greens, dry or preserved hay or leaves, grass, oats or mixed feed, etc. for different types of animals for better yield of milk, meat, etc.

Developing the feed mixture for commercial purposes

Classifying the types of plants harmful to animals as feed and making sure that they are not used

Treating sick animals by regulating and prescribing specific feed

Analyzing the feed samples to determine protein, carbohydrate, fat, mineral and vitamin contents and trace elements

Skilled in assessing the relative nutritional values of various feeds

Efficient in supporting the work of agricultural advisers/consultants

Proficient in visiting farms and interpreting forage analysis

Knowledge of using specialist computer software to devise diets and produce reports

Efficient in working with clients to formulate diets that meet the requirements/objectives that they want for their animals

Skilled in analyzing nutritional disorders in animals

Skilled in maintaining awareness of technical and scientific developments

Overview of Healthcare Industry in India

The Department of Animal Husbandry has been providing assistance to the State Governments for the control of animal diseases, scientific management and upgrade of genetic resources, increasing availability of nutritious feed and fodder, sustainable development of processing and marketing facilities and enhancement of production and profitability of livestock and fisheries enterprises. State Governments have set up separate departments which are responsible for development of animal husbandry and dairying in the State.

Considering all these aspects it is safe to say that the job demand for Animal Nutritionist is likely to increase in the coming years.
