On-the-job training in diamond polishing for six months

Certified training for Polishing Supervisor (programme aligned to G&J/Q 4707 released by the Gem & Jewellery Skills Council of India)

Minimum of 3 yearswork experience in diamond faceting and polishing

The tasks a Polishing Supervisor is expected to perform include:

Monitoring the work of the faceting and polishing department

Dexterity of the hands

Good eyesight

Sharp mind

Physical strength

Ability to work with high noise generating machinery

Ability to clearly understand concepts such as the geometry of diamonds, internal diamond structures (graining, etc.), technology being used, maintenance aspects of tools and machines, etc.

Ability to guide operators and provide direction in case of queries from operators

Ability to identify individual team member?s strengths

Leadership qualities

Patience

Ability to handle a team

Good Communication skills

Team spirit

Multi-tasking ability

Decision-making skills

Integrity

It is not a bench job

Will handle a team of facetors and polishers

Local travelling is not a part of this job role

Working hours

Most companies usually work for 6 days a week and 8 hours every day. This may vary from company to company

Shift system maybe available in some organizations

One may develop occupational hazards like dust inhalation, eye strain, poor posture leading to back and shoulder problems, long working hours and accidents with machinery if not taken care of

Diamonds cut and polished in India are of world-class quality. 11 out of 12 diamonds set in jewellery globally are cut and polished in India. This means there will be an increase in the demand for Polishing Supervisor.
