Job Description: 

Industrial engineers determine the most effective ways to use the basic factors of production-people, machines, materials, information, and energy-to make a product

Summary: 

Industrial and production engineers conduct research and design, organize and oversee the construction, operation and maintenance of industrial production processes and installations. They establish programs for the coordination of manufacturing activities and assess cost effectiveness and safety.

Tasks: 

Job activities and tasks include:

  • studying functional statements, organizational charts and project information to determine functions and responsibilities of workers and work units and to identify areas of duplication
  • establishing work measurement programs and analyzing work samples to develop standards for labour utilization
  • analyzing workforce utilization, facility layout, operational data and production schedules and costs to determine optimum worker and equipment efficiencies
  • developing specifications for manufacture, and determining materials, equipment, piping, material flows, capacities and layout of plant and system
  • organizing and managing project labour and the delivery of materials, plant and equipment
  • establishing standards and policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance according to engineering principles and safety regulations
  • inspecting plant to improve and maintain performance
  • directing the maintenance of plant buildings and equipment, and coordinating the requirements for new designs, surveys and maintenance schedules
  • advising management on new production methods, techniques and equipment
  • liaising with materials buying, storing and controlling departments to ensure a steady flow of supplies
Knowledge: 

Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of principles, concepts and techniques in field of work, discipline and/or professional practice

  • Highly specialized knowledge of analyzing, planning, managing and establishing ideas, policies, strategies, projections and/or conditions in the field of work, discipline and/or professional practice

  • Work Context: 

    Most engineering programs involve a concentration of study in an engineering specialty, along with courses in both mathematics and science. Work on and manage complex engineering projects. Usually work regular business hours, but may need to work evenings and weekends or be on call. Work in offices and on construction sites, which may be isolated. May also, travel overseas to work or to attend conferences and seminars.

    Education: 

    Bachelor degree in industrial engineering or relevant discipline, higher qualification or equivalent.

    Required Work Experience: 

    5 - 7 years and above
