Operating knitting machine for producing flat fabric
Placing cones of yarn on stand of the machine
Threading ends of yarn through guides and feeders
Replacing empty cones with filled ones and joining broken ends
Replacing defective or broken needles
Oiling and cleaning the machine
Knowledge of designs of textile products
Skilled in determining the right size of product that is to be knitted
Ability to perform basic repairing of the machine
Ability to create their own designs and patterns

Textile and Handloom Sector in India
The Indian textile industry is one the most important industries for the Indian economy. Its importance is underlined by the fact that it accounts for around 4% of GDP, 14% of the industrial production and 17% of the country?s total export earnings. The sector contributes about 14 per cent to industrial production, 4 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and 27 per cent to the country's foreign exchange inflows. The textile sector has witnessed a spurt in investment during the last five years.
