The tasks of a Boatman is expected to perform include:
Piling boat to carry men and material across waterways, working alone and in groups
Checking boat for leakage and other damage
Mooring boat in convenient place for enabling entry of persons and loading of cargo
Ensuring that boats capacity is not exceeded
Maintaining boats balance on water
Covering cargo if required to protect it from weather
Getting conversant with routes
Unmooring boat propels and directing it by means of oars, rudder, pole, sails, etc.
Mooring boat on reaching destination for persons to alight and for cargo to be unloaded
Ability to load and unload materials from vessel
Knowledge of mooring and unmooring
Well-versed in technical know-how of a boat
Proficient in water routes
Ability to ferry passengers safely
Ability to maintain balance of boat with passengers on it
Ability to load and unload cargo
Ability to focus for long hours
Diligent and hardworking
Ability to follow instructions

Ship usually sails for 5/6 days a week and works for 14/15 hours every day. This may vary from ship to ship
