Cycle Tyre Fabric Tearing Machine Operator

The tasks a Slitting Machine Operator, Cycle Tyre is expected to perform include:

Cutting rolls of rubberized fabric to required widths over slitting or tearing machine

Mounting roll of rubber-coated fabric to machine shaft using hoisting equipment

Adjusting rotary knives to cut stock to desired widths using a wrench

Threading end of roll of stock through guides of machine with aid of helper

Adjusting guide rolls to give proper tension to fabric roll

Catching end of cut strips and starting them on power driven shells or spools

Operating Tear off Machine or tearing by hand the required width of fabric from end of roll, and passing each end over opposite rolls so that fabric is automatically torn off

Observing machine cutting and winding cut strips

Regulating tension of winding device by turning wheels

Lifting rolls of cut stock

Knowledge of adjusting rotary knives to cut stock

Proficiency in using a wrench

Well-versed with threading end of roll of stock through guides

Knowledge of oiling and lubricating machine and bearings

Proficiency in passing end of fabric over guide rolls and on cutting table

Well-versed with using hoisting equipment

Proficiency in adjusting tension of fabric over guide rolls

Well-versed with operating slitting or tearing machine

Proficiency in using measuring tools like rule, tri-square, etc.

Overview of Rubber Sector in India

There are about 6,000 units comprising 30 large scale, 300 medium scale and around 5,600 small scale and tiny sector units in the Rubber sector in India. Such units are manufacturing more than 35,000 rubber products, employing 4,00,000 people, which involve 22,000 technically qualified support personnel, contributing 40 billion to the National Exchequer through taxes, duties and other levies. With an estimated production of 125 million tyres during FY2013, the size of the Indian tyre industry is estimated at 285-290 billion. The auto industry consists of around 39 companies, spread throughout the country, with many being rather small. Tyre companies directly employ over 0.13 million persons of varying skill levels. Tyre industry consumes around 63% of the total Natural Rubber (NR) produced in the country. Since production of NR involves over 1 million growers (farmers), tyre industry provides gainful employment to nearly 0.5 million growers of NR, a majority of them in the small grower category.
