The tasks a Printing Machine Operator, Photographic is expected to perform include:
Operating automatic film printing machine to print photographs from negative film
Examining negative film for contrast and deciding on type and grade of printing paper to be used
Feeding roll of printing paper into the machine
Starting machine by operating switches
Observing machine, exposing negative and printing paper to light for specified time
Delivering exposed prints for developing
Collecting exposed prints and developing them in chemical baths (developing and fixing solutions) for varying but timed periods
Knowledge of selecting appropriate photographic paper
Knowledge of operating machines
Well-versed in placing negative film in film-holder of machine
Proficient in setting machine for light conditions and for time of exposure
Proficient in washing developed prints in cold running water
Well-versed in drying wet prints under shady conditions
Knowledge of fitting colour filters for taking colour prints
Knowledge of repairing and overhauling printing machine
Ability to follow instructions
Good observation skills
Result oriented
Diligent and hardworking

The Indian Printing Industry, growing at a rate of 12% per annum, comprises more than 250,000 big, small and medium printers. The current annual turnover of the industry is more than 50,000 crores (USD 11 Billion).
