Employment Prospects and Significant Growth of Indian Handicrafts Industry
Indian Handicrafts represent beauty, dignity, form and style. In the 1970s, the government began initiatives for the preservation of crafts and skill upgrade to focus on meeting the challenges that the sector was facing. However the focus shifted to export in the later decades. It plays a significant role in the country?s economy and provides employment to more than 7.3 million people; mostly from rural and semi-urban areas.
Today, handicrafts and handcrafted gift items manufactured and exported from India are much sought-after and have established an unsurpassable reputation in the international market. According to provisional data, the exports of Indian handicrafts in the period of April-August 2014-15 has shown an increase of US$ 256.32 million, which is about 18.06% over the same period in 2013-14. Based on historical trends, the Handicrafts sector is expected to grow by 16% during 2013?17 and by another 16% during 2017?22. These factors indicate good job prospects for Horn Comb Maker (Hand) in India.
