The tasks of a Lascar Stager, Ship Building is expected to perform include:
Erecting temporary wooden structure
Scaffoldings for placing staging planks inside and outside ship under construction and repairs to facilitate work
Supervising erection and removal of wooden structures and scaffoldings and related tasks
Performing other tasks as guided
Knowledge of carpentry
Knowledge of shipbuilding
Well-versed with different type of wood
Proficient in dismantling scaffoldings and other wooden structures to arrange launching of ship
Knowledge of erecting steel and tubular uprights
Proficient in building crossing bars and ledgers for resting staging planks
Ability to assist shipwright in aligning ship structure
Ability to focus for long hours
Diligent and hardworking
Ability to follow instructions
Dexterity of hands
Physically fit

Shipyard usually sails for 5/6 days a week and works for 14/15 hours every day. This may vary from shipyard to shipyard
