The tasks of a Shipwright is expected to perform include:

Erecting props and temporary structures to stabilize and support ship during, construction and repairs in shore

Aligning ship structure according to designed centre line and angle of declivity and plots

Marking reference points and lines on building dock

Building keel blocks, bilge blocks, cradles and shoring for supporting slip in building docks, etc.

Positioning and secures blocking and other structures on dock platform according to ship?s blue-prints

Aligning vessel over blocks

Establishing reference points and lines on ship?s hull for locating machinery

Using brace, drill bits, augers, spanners etc.

Ensuring correct alignment of hull, frame and fittings

Preparing entire launching ways to launch ship

Getting all material and timber salvaged after launching for use in subsequent operation

Knowledge of stabilizing and supporting ship during construction and repairs

Ability to align ship structure according to designed centre line

Knowledge of using tools like brace, drill bits, augers, spanners, etc.

Proficient in fitting launching triggers

Well-versed in nailing metal fittings, plates and bulk heads to wooden parts of ship

Proficient in fabricating and installing furring pieces, aprons, uprights, etc.

Knowledge of framing wood in ship according to specifications

Ability to maintain alignment of vessel

Knowledge of levelling ground ways, runners wooden blocks etc., erects props, fastens standing ways by wire ropes
