The tasks a Grounds man is expected to perform include:Preparing and maintaining grounds for recreation and sports activities

Supervising breaking of soil, removal of weeds and foreign matters

Planning the drainage system of the ground

Sowing required type of grass seeds

Mixing fertilisers to improve growth and colour of turf

Laying turf, treating and preparing the ground for various sports activities

Dressing turf with nitro-chalk, ammonium sulphate, etc. to prevent invasion of earth worms and diseases

Adopting measures to get rid of rabbits, field mice, etc.Marking playing grounds, tracks, etc. with chalk line

Setting up goal posts and performing other related tasks

Supervising work of men engaged in upkeep of fields

Knowledge of field requirements for different sports Familiar with constructing drainage systems

Knowledge of preparing grass for sowing Familiar with nutrient management of the soil

Knowledge of curbing weeds Familiar with integrated insect, pest and disease management Familiar with irrigation management

Basic knowledge of marking and goal setting for various sports

Proficient in maintenance of the grounds for sports activities
